Overview: The Product Development Engineer is responsible for the development of new products and processes in own manufacturing design and production site or 3rd party partners to support our customers and to advance the level of technology within the braking business. The advancement of technology will ensure DRiV’s technical leadership in the industry and will support the continued improvement in market position and profitability.
Key responsibilities:
● Develop Friction Materials in the categories Semi Met, Low Met and NAO according to legal and customer requirements including capability requirements, mainly for Chinese After Market Braking for LV (light vehicle) and CV (Commercial vehicle) Disk pad and Brake lining.
● Lead to create and manage Formulation and Process Releases
● Lead to create and manage Product Engineering Specifications
● Prepare and manage prototype orders and data collection.
● Support factory manufacturing initiatives, including scrap reduction and VAVE.
● Report data to Research and Quality functions in written and graphical formats, including managing DVP reports.
● Lead to evaluate 3rd party products for both LV and CV prior to apply market.
● Lead to evaluate new local raw material sources for existing NAO/SM and LS formulations. Coordinate local sourcing with global formulation team.
● Manage the product change process related to cost Reductions.
● Work with Application Engineer and Product Management team to establish application engineering guide/standards for new and existing formulations, shims, and hardware, etc.
● Research and implement Government regulation for new and existing products.
● Works well within a team structure and supports the team in locally in China and Global team among EMEA, NAFTA and full APAC team.
● Understands and uses general engineering practices. (logical thinking, data driven)
Qualifications:
● Bachelor’s degree in engineering, (Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or, Automotive Engineering is preferred)
● Experience in Automotive industry +10 years. (Experience in Global Automotive parts industry +5 years is preferred, or work in Friction material Development or Manufacturing +3 years is preferred.)
● Capable for frequent traveling between Wuhan and Shanghai, and 3rd party partner site.
● Good communication skills in Chinese (native) and English. (fluent)
● Effective presentation skills, particularly written and preferably oral to be able to communicate with internal and external teams.
● Knowledge in Six sigma /Statistical tools analysis of data.
● Good skills in Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for data analysis and presentation.
