ROLE SUMMARY
China Vaccine Search & Evaluation (S&E) and China Investment Vehicle (CIV) Lead is a key role in supporting the China Business Development needs. This role is the external face of Pfizer in China for the Vaccine areas, and will foster a broad network throughout the Biotech / Pharmaceutical industry in China. The focus of this role is on sourcing and assessing preclinical/post-CAN compounds, early clinical development stage (Phase 1 and 2) opportunities, as well as later stage and commercial opportunities. Key aspects of this role include contributing to therapeutic area strategy development; ensuring proactive, targeted search activities are undertaken on mechanisms and indications of strategic interest; establishing and maintaining relationships with the Vaccine community in China; leading multidisciplinary teams to efficiently and thoroughly assess external opportunities. For transactional stage opportunities, this role supports deal execution as a deal team member and provides inputs on deal-structuring and contract negotiations, leveraging the existing working relationships with the potential partners.
In addition, this person will be responsible for the activities on China Investment Vehicle (CIV). This person will also evaluate new opportunities in early-stage private biotechnology companies aligned with Pfizer’s scientific and business strategies, to support business development activities and venture investments. Processing, managing, and tracking investment analytics is also a key component of this role. To be successful the candidate will need to leverage both internal and external networks of diverse groups, with the goal of creating/supporting strong strategic relationships with Pfizer.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
● Contributes to Vaccine strategy development and executes the China BD component of the strategy, in partnership with the WWBD Vaccine S&E colleagues
● Accountable for covering the external landscape such that external opportunities are proactively sourced, thoroughly evaluated, prioritized and brought forward to governance for decision.
● Identifies relevant companies (based on scientific or other capabilities) and ensures that strong relationships are established and maintained in areas of interest to Pfizer Vaccine
● Serves as primary point of contact with the potential partner prior to review of confidential information by global team and thereafter partners in this role with WWBD S&E and Transactional leads
● Together with WWBD S&E and Transactional leads, coordinates preparation and presentation of materials for senior management briefings
● Manage the evaluation of potential new investments and activities around China Investment Vehicle (CIV)
● Coordinate with the global Pfizer Ventures team on strategic investments in the region
● Coordinate and lead technical due diligence for CIV of new opportunities with internal R&D collaborators
● Build diverse collaborative relationships across Pfizer to generate alignment around investments and facilitate collaboration between portfolio companies and Pfizer
● Execute transactions through diligence, financial analysis, negotiation, and legal documentation review
● Manage deal governance processes ensuring compliance with corporate policies/processes.
● Manage and track investments over time, providing data for financial reporting, reports and presentations
● As needed, Lead search & evaluation activities with the broader China Business Development team in discovery space, platforms and across Pfizer’s core therapeutic areas
● Cultivate diverse relationships external to Pfizer within the Biotech ecosystem
● Coordinate the China BD interactions with the China innovation ecosystem (e.g., regular meetings with VCs, Investment Banks, Financial advisors) to generate deal flow
● Knowledgably represent Pfizer in discussions external audiences
● Support relevant management dashboards / presentations
QUALIFICATIONS
Candidate demonstrates a breadth of diverse leadership experiences and capabilities including: the ability to influence and collaborate with peers, develop and coach others, oversee and guide the work of other colleagues to achieve meaningful outcomes and create business impact.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
● Professional degree required – PhD, MD,
● Significant understanding of the biopharmaceutical model with extensive work experience in biopharmaceutical sector.
● Experience in venture capital investing and/or equity capital markets strongly preferred
● Demonstrated ability to collaborate and communicate with Scientific and business leaders inside and outside the organization
● Demonstrated the ability to operate within team of peers across corporate functions - thrives in a team environment. Ability to effectively communicate with C-Suite level leaders.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
● 5+ years of pharma/biotech business development/venture capital/investment banking experience
● Experienced in financial management and analysis
● Strong communication skills demonstrated in both business/scientific and casual environments
● Ability to influence without line management
● Experience in working closely with, advising and presenting to senior leaders on collaborations, business development or strategy
● Strong negotiation capabilities: ability to persuade/ influence and effectively gain agreement/consensus
NON-STANDARD WORK SCHEDULE, TRAVEL OR ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS
● Ability to travel globally 25% or more of the time
● Non-traditional work hours required on an as needed basis (across global time zones) –early mornings, nights, weekends and during vacation time
